Hope you enjoy this one!
"My eyes were not always sore and bloodshot,
my nose didn't always touch my chin,
Attempts to make your nose touch your chin.

number 2:
I must state it is absurd and impossible to have your nose and chin together. Where would you have space to breath through?
and I have not always been a servant." p.49
"White as a lily, and as firmly and elegantly moulded as the Venus de Medici" p. 50
LOOKING GOOD
"We set sail in the yacht gilded as richly as the altar of St. Peter's at Rome." p.50
I CAN IMAGINE! *cough cough*
Moving on from *whatever that was*:
I find that Voltaire's best sense of humor is condensed in the sexual scope. When he inserts the phrase "O che sciagura d'essere senza coglione"p. 53 that has a rather inappropriate translation, he is intentionally giving importance to the fact that the guy is a eunuch. The enuch wants to be able to posses the old lady, in a way not mentionable, yet he can't. Poor guy I can imagine him.
"O che sciagura d'essere senza coglico"
...and the woman like "Astonished and delighted as I was to hear my native language, I was none the less surprised..." p.53 WTH THE FACT THAT HE WAS A EUNUCH THANK GOD!
When Lady Cunegonde asks the old lady for advise, because the greatest man in South America wants her, the old lady says:
"What right have you to pride yourself on an unshakable fidelity?"p.59
After reading some blogs for example MARIANA'S, I've noticed that money and materialism is something that probably annoyed Voltaire when he wrote the book. He shows how people are capable of putting money before love. Like what the old woman was suggesting. And that doing the opposite is what is wrong back then and still is.
It is just still so relevant, how can you love someone for their money?
I remember last year in Pre AP Lit the teacher asked: "Would you get married only for personal interest?", one girl said yes. We were all very surprised (not really I knew she had that mentality). She had the courage of admitting it... I wouldn't do it, but I have thought about it. We had to act so concerned about her. She had said such a thing! Deep down it was common for us, accepted in way. We accepted that view point, that's were the problem is,was, and will be forever.
Society let's this behaviors in and welcomes them into our daily life.
Voltaire wants us to reflect upon our sad reality. He is successful.
